EVE Online

Eve Online won't shut down [2019]
Initially when I launched Eve from Steam, the launcher didn't show up.
[Googling similar problems I now know where to find it within the Steam directories]
Logged in to my account fine, set some skills to learn and logged back out.
Closed the launcher and Steam still says Eve Online is running, and won't actually shut down.
Has anyone had anything similar?

- I can only find an unanswered steam post back in 2012 for this.
- I only started to have this trouble after the "Invasion" update.
- I've force closed steam down, but the game shows as "running" when I log back in.
Any help?

It seems to me that the Launcher has to be open while closing the game (or opening it).
EdrickV's post helped me.
If you follow the 'shortcut to launcher' explenation, you can start the Launcher directly (not via Steam). It shows the game running. In the left upper corner there is a button which will indicate hat you can stop it. Press it. The game will be closed (or the launcher finally gets the information that the game has already been closed) and the indicator will show that pressing the button next will launch the game. Press it and it will launch (At least for me it did, repeatedly. That's how I've played it for a week now).

This is more of a steam problem than an EVE problem, several other users are experiencing this problem and I've experienced it on other games like FSX but not EVE. I'd recommend opening support tickets for both Valve and CCP, I haven't got any other solutions. Does restarting steam fix it?

Hello, friends! Yesterday I got my first EVE experience. The launch was successful, but when I finished for today, I got a similar problem. I have a habit of setting up an in-game configuration and thought it was my fault. Now I do not know what to do with the black screen after each disconnect (and there is no visibility of any response of the system on the display, although I can see how Windows goes to the help page in the browser). Also, I have to try to use the full-screen mode in the frame or disable 64-bit client support.

I have a similar issue, when i shut down EVE and put my computer to sleep for a few hours and come back and find EVE is apparently running in Steam and i cannot launch it because it is already running.

Needless to say there is nothing EVE related running under Task Manager, so why it thinks it is running i do not know.

The only way i can get around this is to browse local files ...Steam\steamapps\common\Eve Online\Launcher/ and run the evelauncher.exe.
This loads up the launcher as it is supposed to and i can play, until i close it off and it does NOT say EVE is running until i come back to it minutes or hours later and it is suddenly running again by itself!

I'm having the same issue on my PC, however, I did manage to find a work around other than rebooting.
What seems to happen is that when you close the EVE Launcher, the window closes but Steam says it is still running. If you try to relaunch EVE, it says that it is still running and won't restart it. At first I couldn't seem to find anything EVE related running.
I persisted and, after listing processes by memory usage, I found Launcher for EVE Online (32 bit) was still taking up 46.7 MB of memory, 16-17% CPU time and occassional flashes of disk usage as well.
I'm not entirley sure whether it was happening before or not, but I first noticed it happening after switching to the 64 bit version. Reverting to the 32 bit game did not solve it so I switched back to 64 bit, but at least I know how to find and close the launcher. However, the launcher closure issue needs to be resolved.

Use menu and exit instead of cross to close launcher.

@Vindicator Unfortunately that doesn't work either.

Seems this is an issue with the Eve launcher itself since its also mentioned by players on the Eve forums e.g https://forums.eveonline.com/t/launcher-remains-in-ram-after-closing/171676.

Edit: Uninstalling Eve in steam and then reinstalling it again the next time I launched the game it got a small update that fixed this issue. No idea if it was a coincidence in the timing or the previously installed version was not checking for updates.

With regard to Eve not launching directly from Steam this may be an issue on Windows 7 due to Windows Game Explorer no longer connecting to its server and effects a few older games that use it.
Try here for a more permanent solution rather than running the launcher directly: http://ubeogesh-things.blogspot.com/2012/08/resolve-it-finally-game-explorer-aka.html.

2020 happening to me windows 10 keeps running even after closing steam. can't connect to sht, my skill trainer is offline. what is going on

How I had to resolve this:
I had to install the Eve Launcher to my desktop (From Eve's website).
The installer found the data already installed by Steam.
Never log in to Steam to play EVE.

I'm not sure if this will work for you, but I launched task manager scrolled down for a bit and found the eve online launcher still running, i then proceeded to end this task and it fixed my eve online. Hope it works for you
