EVE Online

Moving EVE to another computer.
I'm trying to move EVE Online to another computer with steam on it, (as my user account is through steam) but every time I do it tries to download 6 gigs or so of stuff. I've copied and pasted the game directory into steamapps/common folder, and rechecking it comes out 100%, but it just starts downloading a 6gig segment and there's nothing I can do. If I go around steam, IE opening up the EVE launcher directly the game runs fine, but since my account is through steam, I need steam to run it. I'm Canadian, and with all the limits on bandwidth here I an't afford to just waste 6 gigs I don't need to download. How do I transfer EVE online to another computer with steam without redownloading it? Or, barring that, is it possible to transfer my character away from the steam account to a new account? Could I transfer my subscription to that account as well?

You could try using the backup feature to move it across instead of copying the directory.

I haven't tried that. Mostly because my steam account on my gaming computer is on an external that I just plugged into the laptop to move it. I'll let you know if it works.

Right, found the issue. Steam's a piece of ♥♥♥♥. It's not updated to the latest version of EVE, so when it checks EVE, it fails and downgrades the game. So yeah, I have to downgrade EVE Online, then move it, then update it. I reiterate, steam's a piece of ♥♥♥♥. Definitely transferring my character as soon as my subscription expires.

i thought i was the only one who gets this problem.
i wanted to backup my game files as i currently need space for other things, and voila...
steam did great job to delete my eve online instead of backup.
and the great thing is that their customer service actually advice me to contact the game developer/publisher or consult this forum.
Bravo steam!!!!

if i register the game from steam how do i get my id and pasword if i dont want to use steam anymore for EVE?

You can start EVE without starting steam, even if you purchased EVE through steam. Just go to your gamefolder and find the appropriate .exe file.
Somehow your settings are stored in a different location (or something like that) when you start EVE this way though. So you'll need to reconfigure your EVE settings.

Transfering a character to another account is possible, but costs $20,-. It takes 10 hours to complete. The character being transferred must be in a NPC corporation and have an inactive training queue.

i had no problem with the character transfer procedure and the cost, but now i just read again in steam:
"EVE Online API information and character transfers are currently not available for Steam accounts."

DevionNL, Could you explain more about the 'reconfigure' ?

Not sure why it would say that in Steam. I recently transferred a character from a non-steam account to an account created with Steam. Perhaps the reverse is prohibite? Can't imagine why...

You can just go here and try it I suppose: https://secure.eveonline.com/TransferCharacter.aspx

The stupid thing is it does all the eligibility checks *after* you've entered your payement information.

If it looks like something is wrong or you can't otherwise find what you're lookin for, just open a ticket at http://community.eveonline.com/support/support-tickets/
I've found the support to be fast and effective.

API works, i use it too, that message is old

API works, just login to the eve site with your steam account, and then go to support, make a API

the "no API issue" is old and from last week.

if you still need to download files, oyu have some files, probably cabs or osmething, turned invisible.
