Game won't start
I tried launching the game fr the first time and a Steam window that said said "Steam- Update News" opened, but the page just showed the Steam store home page.

Yep, same thing happened to me. Instead I'm downloading the client directly from CCP's website. Once you've got registered and have a username/password you should be able to re-download the client directly from the account management thing.

Same problem. Found a fix though. Go into the game folder itself (In my case "E:\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Eve Online") and run the Repair application. This will download all the patches etc and replace any missing files. After this the game should launch through steam as normal.

Found a faster way to get it working as the suggested method didn't work for me : go to your Steam directory > \SteamApps\common\Eve Online\launcher\cache and run updater.exe . Then chose the Eve directory root (Steam directory > \SteamApps\common\Eve Online) and it should be ok.

download the launcher bypass so that may identify your steam id and run the game , from https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238130 and install it to steam/steamapps/eve online but before doing that run from that folder repair eve so that any changes u made or updates available will download before u do the launcher bypass. However I had the same problem 1 month and a half ago and someone told me the same thig and it worked ,unfortunately i don't know why the launcher normally doesnt work probably a bug or somethin but I think steam and ccp are already trying to fix this issue.PS - enjoy the best MMO ever

Thank you, this worked for me where everything else failed.

i dont have an updater.exe in my cache folder :c i can run eve online by running the launcher directly from the folder but it wont login with my steam account (made a testing account and game actually launched), and if i run eve online thru steam the ONLY thing that happens is itll show me as (playing eve online) for 2 seconds and then back to nothing, and NOTHING AT ALL pops up on my screen, win7 64-bits here, tried every internet solution (note that if i run eve.exe itll give me a rundll32.dll error with something about clkern.dll, tried solutions for that too but came out with nothing)

Old thread but I was having the exact same issue as Fuzzy and found a solution.

https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/209571689-Windows-Error-Message-Missing-MSVCP120-dll-File

Follow the steps there, if it says it's already installed choose to repair. Restarted PC, launched EVE and viola! It ran without a hitch.

For anyone having this issue with steam, simply start the game by running the launcher directly \Steam\SteamApps\Common\Eve Online" fileis called evelauncher.exe make sure your steam is open and it will work, first time you need to create your account which will take you to a browser create an account then close everything down run the game again and this time you will see the play button and game run the game.

6 years after the original post, and this still hasn't been fixed. Amazing...

MY FIX: go to Steam. Eve ONline - Running, Right click , Manage Local Files, should take you to your Eve Directory. CLick on Eve and wait, it will start after it loads.
