EVE Online

Has ANYONE managed to get on the Public Test Server?
Happy with game, but very unhappy with purchasing it through steam without any notice that my account would be some sort of second class citizen.

If I try to log on to the test server singularity I just get "Please use your EVE username / password". And I haven't seen anyone who's actually been able to log on to Singularity with a steam account :berserk:

Very disappointed in Valve and CCP with this. Plan to pester support until they solve my problem or tell me to go away.

The test server is only mirrored from the live server every once in a while (every couple of weeks, months). That means that if you registered a new account after the last version of the mirror was taken, the server doesn't recognize your login data as valid. You can usually find when the latest mirror was taken on the test server forum. Keep an eye on that and try again once it gets updated.
Oh thanks, I'll try again after it's updated.

That said, everything I've found with google indicates that no one knows how to connect with a steam account, so I don't have a ton of hope.

If I can connect after the thingamabob updates I'll retract my berserker rage :berserk: and make a guide for how to do it easily.
I'm not sure how it works with Steam accounts, since I don't actually use one. But your best bet for questions like this is the official EVE forums or, like you already did, send in a petition. But the test server is an exact replica of the live server, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Good luck though.
I'll contact support if it still doesn't work after the log-in info syncs.

I jumped the gun with raging a bit because I read from several places that there was no known way to do it with a steam account (steam accounts don't have username password combo, just steam ID that's authenticated through steam).

Also the game *must* be launched through steam itself, clicking the .exe asks for a username password combo (which as above, doesn't actually exist)

What I'm going to attempt after the account info syncs with the test server is:

* First see if I can successfully log-in to the test realm by adding the appropriate command line option through steam
* If that works, hack together some ugly bat files to switch between test and normal in a way that works with steam (ugh, shouldn't be necessary).
