Logging Normal Eve Accounts using the Steam Eve Launcher
I had Eve installed on my computer before purchasing a starter pack through Steam. Now I have Eve installed through Steam and normally. Do I need to have both installs taking up space?

You know, this is something I wanted answered as well.

What about the settings files folder? Does it share that with the non-Steam installation, or is there another one somewhere?

You can use the EVE Online client installed through Steam with "normal" EVE accounts (in order to do that, open the launcher and click the "Switch user account" link under the "Play" button. However, you have to install and run EVE through Steam if you want to use an account purchased via Steam.

The setting files folder is in the same location as the regular EVE installation, i.e. %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\ for Vista (so, for a Steam installation, it would be something like %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_steam_steamapps_common_eve_online_tranquility). More information can be found here[community.eveonline.com].

Hope it makes sense. :)

I see, so it makes a settings folder in the same location, but it's still a different folder. If I use the Steam client to log in non-Steam accounts, it's going to create new settings files for those accounts in the Steam path settings folders, right?

Also, can you run multiple clients at the same time off the Steam install without issue?

I'd say it's easier to move a character on a steam made account to "regular" EVE account in the long run.
Though it would be better if CCP would find a ways around these sort of self made acount problems so that it wouldn't matter if account was made through steam or EVE API.

Yes to both your questions. :)

Yeah, there's definitely room for improvement here, and we'll work on that.

Even if accounts made through Steam purchases were prefixed and suffixed ala SID_SomeDude_1 would be good and enable logging in without the steam / double install. Steam's fine, except when it wants to update itself or your unable to connect to it for whatever reason. I dislike the Steam client as it is now, but I'm old fashioned :[

but than once you begin only using steam version of game, you can't run multiple instances of it though? i just activated hours for plex forgetting i need to update steam client. Setting to one version would be easier, maybe make a shortcut for updating patches in between versions as to avoid having to re-download patches?

You can run multiple instances of the Steam EVE client; you just can't do it by launching it through Steam. Do it by pathing into the installation folder and launching the launcher or the executable manually.
