"Notice: Monthly subscription fee required after first month"
They are right the game can become an economic simulator. And yes sometimes its good to use a calculator. But in eve that is just a simple part. If a player simply does not want to engage in that then by no means do you have too. But when you get up in pvp or high level stuff it can help. The spreadsheet stuff is more for people playing the market.
But if you wanted to make your money for example farming level 4 missions and salvaging scrap.. then you would have no need for a spreadsheet.
Now some players may say that the ui is "spreadsheety" but no more than wow having dps meters and aggro meters.. every piece of ui you have in eve is usefull and extremely flexable.
If you buy it from CCP website your time starts once you have created an account and activated your starter pack code.
As far as where chore comes to play it comes easily if you plan on financing your playing fees through mission running or incursions or any sort of PvE activity because while 600mil isn't much to some it's still a lot of isk to spend montly, especially if you have several characters like I did and especially if you feel that you HAVE TO do it to keep playing (instead of ponying up the odd 15$ a month per char).
But yes, keep your clones up to date.
