Don't buy EVE on Steam
By all means, try EVE as it is an amazing and deeply complex game, but don't buy it on Steam as you'll run into some problems that non-Steam users don't have - I'm not going to explain them but instead I'm going to point the readers to this reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/2orxxc/psa_do_not_buy_eve_on_steam_even_with_the_discount/

No doubt there were problems in the past (I had them - could sometimes not log in etc).
But since I picked it up 2 months ago again I haven't experienced a single problem with it.

Obviously it won't be 'better' than having the standalone client but I can't see any downsides right now in it's current state either.

OP is stubborn and copypasta of ancient opinions/experiences

They are hardly ancient, considering the reddit thread is from yesterday. You're right about copypasta though - I am onlythe messenger here so blame the relevant reddit users for any possible inaccuracies.

And I'm possibly stubborn as well :)

I encourage anybody who can';t stand to hear and maybe consider good advice to buy your account thru steam. Maybe you'll learn something, but probably not.

Magron you truly cannot understand the advantages of Steam... There are a number of advatages to running Steam. High Speed delivery..convenient install and uninstall interface with all your games in 1 place, file validation utility, IM, friends list, in game forum access, voice chat, are just a few I can think of off the top of my head. I am sure there are more.

So lets hear your reasons not to..other than you claiming its good advice.

I've been on Steam and EVE for over a decade now. I can confirm that there are significant drawbacks to playing on a Steam EVE account, the most major of which is inconsistent connectivity. I've been troubleshooting these issues for people on these forums for years now, so I have a solid basis of understanding on the matter, and a whole lot of empirical evidence to support my stance.

Remember: just because you personally haven't had issues yet, doesn't mean that they don't exist.

And it always helps to get those 1 plex rewards for giving people 21 day keys doesn't it Shotgun....Don't tell me that does not influence your opinion.

You mean the PLEX I give to the invitee once he signs up? If you're going to chase me around the forums and accuse me of this now, you're going to get reported.
Currently I'm unable to download the latest major update for eve on the standalone client (CCP servers suck as usual), I'm thinking of buying the steam version and use both my standalone accounts on it (is it possible?), the only real benefit to having eve on steam is that updates will be coming through steam servers which are reliable most of the time, unless the steam version still updates through the launcher and CCP servers? Could some1 clarify please..

I am not chasing you anywhere . There are only a few new threads in this forum to reply to. I am just stating the obvious. Its a nice motivator as intended by CCP to get people to push there 21 day keys and increase there user base.

Regardless of where you get EVE, it will always update directly via the launcher, through CCP. For launcher-based games, the majority of titles on Steam are handled in this manner, and Steam doesn't keep the most up-to-date versions of these games on file.

I can confirm that the standalone client and update service are functioning perfectly fine right now, so the issue is most likely on your end. If you post your symptoms, we can try to troubleshoot this.

Thank you for the reply, I guess having the steam version is pointless then.

As for the issue I'm having it's how slow the launcher is downloading the update, I'm not the only 1 having this issue, you can find on eve forums many posts of people complaining about the slow downloading speed, barely pulling 20kb and keeps freezing and sometimes requires redownloading again, a day and half later and still can't download the damn update.. Even the repair tool is pulling the same low speeds.. CCP really needs to bring back manual patching, the only option for me now is to download the full game client which contains the new update, downloading 6 gbs is gonna be much much faster than downloading 1.5gb believe it or not. CCP logic ..
Shotgun 10. Dez. 2014 um 16:50
It's going to be a temporary issue. I downloaded the patch yesterday evening at my ISP speed cap. I'm sure they'll fix it shortly.

SO your reasons is because you cannot Multibox a Steam account. Well then if you intend to Multibox don't get a Steam account. But most people have no intention of ever running several accounts at once and playing them all at the same time. Thats an elitist thing for people with lots of money to blow on Eve Online. Sounds like a lot of work to me...

I'm not entirely sure with this, but one of the older statistics from CCP pointed on the massive amount of people who multibox, and that it's more than 50%. But I may be hallucinating, it's almost 5am here.

There is nothing wrong with providing people with 21 days free and some money if they subscribe, I used to plex 2 chars purely out of it (before the Steam era though)

But I'm just randomly crashing your debate, don't mind me... :)
