as for the target painter, thorax is a blaster boat, target painters are primarily for missile damage application and as a support module for OTHER ships to lock a tagret faster (bigger sig faster lock, but that does nothing for when you are solo)
so mayhaps remove the target painter for either another tracking, that way you can script one for max optimum range bonus, and another for tracking, OR, a sensor booster so you can target things faster
and depending on his skills and the mission, burst running a repper is likely more than fine
I had the target painter in mind for my drones but I don't know how useful it is. I have noticed that my shots rarely miss at 20-25km out, even though my range fall-off from antimatter ammo is 11km. I don't usually need to turn my tracking computer on, though I may be mistaken in what it's used for. I assumed it's for hit chance.
Also, should I be forgoing hardeners and just rely on my medium repairer II?
Target painters are virtually useless for turret-based ships.
Unless you're shooting sleepers / incursion rats those two types are a mofo to hit, though you have a t3's painting on C6 sites (rapier's too squichy and would get pulverized in a second).
