Of course, once you've climbed over the dead bodies of your fellow newbies that have hung themselves from the learning cliff... you should be fine.
TL;DR -
http://syncaine.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/learningcurve.jpg
Anyways, the new player experience is pretty in-depth and refined, so you should be fine starting out. The game has a heavy focus on pvp, which is of course not covered by the tutorial (because it's such a dynamic activity), so you'll need to learn that on your own, and with the help of others.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them. I'll be glad to help.
lol thats a funny picture. damn now im afraid to try the game out :(
But I would say just try the buddy-trial either from the link in my profile (21-days), ordinary 14-days offer or the steam account option.
Now I don't have a time to help all the time, be online all the time or even be available to help even if I'm online but I can try to answer any questions that you might have.
What makes EVE good is that the players create their own content simply by trying to survive. As a newbie you are going to hear about these massive wars in nullsec etc... don't worry about that. Just do the tutorials, never give anyone any money for any reason and join Red vs. Blue if you want to PvP.
the problem is though, unlike other mmorpgs which has max level, so you can catch on after certain time, in eve, even the oldest player still far from maxing skills yet, so if you are 5 years behind, you'll always be 5 years behind elite players.
Anyways, that's not right at all. The vet will be able to fly more ships and use more modules, but after a certain point, he won't be able to be more efficient than a newer player with those ships and modules. Only a certain amount of skills affects any given ship/setup, and if you specialize, you can reach maximum levels of efficiency relatively quickly. Sure, you might only be able to fly one race's battleships well when you're a year or two old, while the vet can fly all four races' equally well, but neither of you can use four different ships at a time, so it doesn't matter.
Also, you can use your brain smarts to make lots of money, and just flat-out buy a high-SP character from another player, legally, on the EVE forums.
