EVE Online

New Players?
I've been hearing about EVE for decades and it's been sitting in my library for years now so I wonder, is it worth picking up at this point? I assume most of the players have been at it for years, and generally with games like that it's either very expensive or very time consuming to catch up to a point where you can have fun. I'm not exactly looking for something that I need to put 200 hours into before I get any sort of payoff, so is this worth delving into or should I just skip?

You need money if you dont have time
You need time if you dont have money

Simple and ruthless as that

The exception may be if have a mentor and teach you "how to EVE" and progress quickly.

Go for it. New players can get 1 million skill points by clicking an invite link. Ask and you shall receive.

People have been saying "It's too late to join as I'll never catch up" since 2004 lol. It fundamentally misunderstands the sort of game EVE is.

Anyway. You can progress very quickly if you take the correct path. Make a character, do the tutorial, do the sisters of EVE epic arc (google it once you have done the tutorial). By the time you do this you'll know all the basics of how to fly your ship, how to buy and sell things on the market etc.

Then join a large established group that caters specifically to new players. There are a lot of garbage ones so the ones you need to look for are Pandemic Horde, Brave Newbies or Karmafleet. All of them are based in lawless space which offer the highest-end resources. They will give you a starter pack for joining which includes a dozen or so ships. They will replace any of these ships for free if you lose them and one of those ships should be one that specialises in destroying NPCs.

From there you can do PvE activities in their space to generate cash, or if you only want to PvP you can just join their PvP fleets of which there are typically 8-12 a day of which you can join any or none entirely at your discretion, where there will be a channel within the fleet for new players to ask questions and receive guidance. You can just use the free ships they give you for this.

There are no rules governing who is allowed to loot PvP wrecks and keep the loot and new players are encouraged to do so. You can make huge sums of money this way.

To get the most out of this, I'd recommend being active on their Discord, engaging with people, asking questions, joining the tutorial fleets aimed at newbies to learn new skills and so on.

honestly, just download the game and check it out. dont worry about joining groups and what type of content to run and all that. do the tutorial and see if you even like how the game plays. you can do all the stuff people tell you later on. game is more of a marathon than a sprint.
ignore the the fact the game is from 2004 they have been doing massive content drops and graphical overhauls to keep it up to date visually and content wise each one of these massive updates resets the clock
just check it out, see if you like it. Just set realistic goals for yourself, you won't be flying a huge ship any time soon but would you really want to? Such ships are most likely not the greatest source of fun, and they cost a lot in the way of time and money. Personaly I have way more fun in little ships that go boom or make other little ships go boom.... So if you want to do lowsec Faction warfare exploring, mining (yuck) or maybe mess aroud on the market etc.. all such things are possible and with a free alpha account you can do em hop on in give it some time and see if you like it.... and see what its all about, and if you don't like it... well then it wasn't for you

If you're going to mention that, at least also tell people that it's a recruitment program. It's not just ''free'' points. There's countless people trying to swindle their personal recruit code because they also get benefits.
This is what high sec is for. New players to get used to the game and see what path they want to take. It does take a commitment if you want to do things like fly carriers and other capitol ships but you can get into mining and exploration fairly quickly if combat isn't your thing. Join a corp and get started. You can do alpha to see what it's like but things are better with and omega sub.

everything lactose has told you is the right way to go about enjoying eve as a new player , just remember eve ships are ment to get blown up . be the guy whos having fun when it happens

jaded players like me may want to express negativity cause we have played to long , you havent and should enjoy yourself for a long time before its time to move on
Create your own corp, the n sit back and watch larger established corps blockade your corp members so anytime they try to fly out and maybe do things like mining they immediately get blasted. That was my experience with Eve, big corps, you were a nobody, little corps you could try to be somebody in the corp.

Since then I've not wanted to play anymore and handed the corp to some other member of which I no nothing of what happened to it or it's members. Today, I'm just bored and thought I'd give it another go, but then I remembered the unpleasant threats of other corps claiming they'd find where our members lived and would come to their homes and work.

Yeah, good times, good times. Not!
yes its always some thing to go in to.
my self i would go for FW as i join in.
easy way to get a good start in to the game
New players can easily find a role in most combat alliances and can contribute a ton in small number battles quickly. The whole barrier to entry thing is true on some level, but it's vastly overstated.
All your money will get blown up and scrapped for other people so they have no need to pay money to play. Avoid at all costs.
You can sub the Omega and then level up all your skill then just unsub it to play it. Because you can you your skill without Omega after you train them. That what I heard I think
