Are steam DLC packs worth it?

I mostly mean starter packs but if you know hidden goodies please let me know.

No, i would just play as an alpha for a while to try the game and if you like what you experience the invest some money on subcription time

Ok so that is not the case as turns out. I researched some more and this video pretty much explains how to calculate the value of packs and when (and why) you may want to buy them.
