Big ship... no crew? 🤔
New to EVE so forgive the knube question but... why aren't there any crew members? Even if it's just a stat, having a giant ship with hundreds of windows, unloading tons of supplies, seems kind of counterintuitive without a crew.

it's a game about spaceships, not people inside of those spaceships

yes there's crew in those ships

also consider that today it's 2024
in EVE it's closer to 23236

a game's immersion draws from the position of the camera relative to the vessel you control. the moment it becomes a game about the people inside of those spaceships, it wouldn't be able to be the game it is today

the premise of the game is to show a new take on pvp that no game has ever done before and it's been working for over two decades now. if that's not for you there's plenty of other games to check out. i could get some if you like.

it's hard to tell if you enjoy video games since your profile doesn't say you do.

Edit

Evidently it’s more difficult to employ, it would seem?

There are chronicles that explore life of ships crews from their own perspective. The emphasis is on how short-lived a career can be given how capsuleers (aka the players) can just throw ships at problems so readily.

I've always wondered why they didn't expand on this and make it a gameplay mechanic. We tinker with modules, why not crews?

When rigs were introduced the original idea was to flavour it as crew skills but they figured rigs were better as it allowed them to create salvaging too but without destroying the mineral market.

na no crew members since you dont have to pay for them when you assemble your ship and neither are they needed to build the ships

i'm 90% sure it's canon that there are crew onboard. i seem to remember there being a hardbook many years ago showing the various ships and crew allotment.

https://universe.eveonline.com/lore/ship-crew

Ships have crews. They can occasionally do without, but crews are the rule rather than the exception.

Also the crew on a destroyed ship usually don't survive a major capsuleer fleet fight where things like smartbombs and titan doomsdays sweep any escape pods off the field. In highsec a destroyed battleship may have some hundreds of survivors that may live to tell the tale, but any crew unlucky enough to wind up in a capsuleer ship is on borrowed time.
