EVE Online

EVE Online

Thinking about getting into game
Is this game still good to play? I saw an ad about the game but would I still be able to play PvP and such as a new player? From what I have read I would be incredibly behind.
Would you recommend starting or am I too behind?

Te best ship in EVE is friendship. If you are alone you just gonna get every time ganked by several pilots.

You can play PVE, trade in the market, sell loot you get from sites and completely avoid PVP. Nobody is going to hunt you actively if that is your concern.

If you want to live in PVP space i wouldnt recommend it until you get a very good idea how to take precautions and learn how everything works.

I've been asking myself whether to return to it. Can you play PVP and contribute to your fleet? Yes. Just don't expect any kind of balance or matchmaking. There's blatant pay2win and older players have many character skills that make them stronger, and take months to train. This a game that does not have any pretense of fairness in pvp, so don't even bother worrying about being behind. Problem is, the whole world permits non-consensual pvp, even the starter areas. So even if you decide you want nothing to do with pvp, it may be forced on you.

Also in general, this is not a very solo-friendly game in the long term. There are plenty of solo activities, but they basically all turn the game into a ISK sweatshop.

1st Rule in the EVE Online discussion board of Steam:
People talking about P2W, toxic community etc. are those who got destroyed out of stupidity many times while being stubbornly learn-resistant and/or are broke. I'm talking about stuff similar to this:

Going through a known dark alley full of thieves with massive amounts of wealth in two thin suitcases. They do it over and over again until they are broke and complain, that this dark alley (located in a big city) should be safe and free of criminals....... and everything sucks, it's a scam.... which goes to "capitalism is bad" etc.

They don't post in Reddit (Karma destruction) and EVE Online (out of fear so everyone will get to see their killboard on zkillboard.com.... obviously flying a thin hulled ship with billions worth of ISK; loosing it all in a gate gank in highsec.

They will tell you that highsec is a no-pvp area but it's extremly misleading. Whenever and whereever you undock, you consent to pvp.

These folks are bad loosers. A look in their killmail-stats would tell us all the truth but they hide it here.

Next, they usually say they "did some gangster bs" for "just sh1t's n giggles", that they own billions of ISK and have it all blah blah blah and the best part I hear since 2009 (and other vets since EVE came out 2003): EVE is dying........

Regarding this guy above me talking about "not a very solo-friendly game"... I'm solo'ing since I started in 2009 and it's a blast. You can earn for Omega but it takes time to know how.

"If you play EVE as literally a full time job you can make enough ISK to buy one of Horde's doctrine ships after just 2 short months!"

combat in eve is like in RL. those with strength, experience and skill will crush you. it's quite ruthless. you'll probably need to team up and join a corp / fleet to even the odds.

solo pvp is still winnable, but it does require experience so you'll know what targets are killable. i found that a cloaky / sniper / kiter style is best for solo pilots, as it gives you the option to avoid unfavorable battles, or to disengage.

as a newbie, you'll die alot. but eventually you'll learn from your mistakes. consider it the cost of education.
