You need the Non-Steam EVE Launcher to play Vanguard

The Steam Launcher is the legacy launcher for EVE and to join the Vanguard First Strike event you will need to current launcher found here: https://www.eveonline.com/download

Just click the download button, run the installer, and when the launcher opens up it will already have your steam folder for the game selected, and it will just auto-complete. Then it will list your characters and a new slot for EVE Vanguard will be below them. Click that to begin installing Vanguard.

If you want to continue to earn play time on your steam account just launch the steam launcher and minimize it then run the game off of the current launcher.

I had to go download the special exe from a CCP website and then download Vanguard on top

Can confirm, any account saved on the steam-launched side are transfered over along with everything also saved so...ya he's basically right.

I can't get Vanguard to download , when I grab the launcher from the CCP website and start downloading the client, its going at around 50 kb/sec. So not possible to download the client. Downloading an update right now on the Steam client, and its going at 15 MB/sec, so I have no idea what is going on.
