Solo/offline game similar to Eve?
Hello! I LOVE Eve. I'm still relatively 'green' in the game... I've played since 2012 but haven't really gotten too deep into the game... in fact I don't think I've been in a corp yet...

Anyway...

Sometimes if internet is down or if I'm on the road with my laptop I get a hankering for some space sim gameplay... is there a game folks can suggest that will give me a similar experience to Eve? Is Starpoint Gemini 2 a worthy alternative? I saw its on sale... I was thinking maybe Elite: Dangerous but that looks a little too action/arcade like for me. or maybe the X series?

X series is your best bet. SG2 is more of an action game.

I think the X series comes closest. Probably X3. X: Rebirth, while not the steaming pile it was at launch, is a very different game; more a spaceship shooter with trading and empire building.

Elite is technically an MMO, there are other people playing it, but it does have a solo mode. The combat in it is far more visceral than any of the others. The trading mechanics are more like EVE's than the others.

I liked Starpoint Gemini 2, though I found it got boring in fairly short order. Personally, I feel it's the most arcade-y of all of them.

Ah okay... didn't realize Elite even had trade... I think i glossed over that somehow... I'll take note of that... When I used to frequent a certain miniatures gaming forum they would gush over Elite Dangerous in the video game section... but never really going into much detail.

Thanks for the info...

Sins of a Solar Empire? Homeworld?

Sins and Homeworld are both RTS games though. EVE is very much a RPG.

Nexus the Jupiter incident is the closest offline game I can think of to EVE's gameplay, but I haven't played enough of it to judge its quality, having only played the first level (I was gonna' get into it, but then I decided to just resub to EVE instead).

Reunion, Terran Conflict, and Albion Prelude right? That should be the 3 games/expacs for X3?

I'll give them a try this weekend.

X3 tc is a standalone I think. But essentially yes.

okay! Here's what I ended up doing... I installed all my X games... I might start doing some streams on my Twitch channel... I just have to time it when my roommates aren't heavy in Overwatch or Paragon...

So it might be odd hours... or I might just record the sessions and put them up on my Youtube channel.

Here's what the lineup looks like:

X: Beyond the Frontier
X-Tension
X2: The Threat
X3: Reunion
X3: Terran Conflict
X3: Albion Prelude
X Rebirth

I doubt I'll make it through full playthroughs for all the games but I thought it would be helpful for folks to see what gameplay looks like from a luddite :P

X3: Albion Prelude as recomended before is an excellent choice imo, even more so after you get the game play down there are numerous mods that improve and expand upon the game (litcube's etc) which make it truly an amazing space sim/empire builder, although even if it looks a little dated.

I have played this game the last week and it is kinda similar to PvE in EVE. The game is still in Alpha stage though so a lot of features and content still needs to be added and after that the game needs balancing. However, I played it already more hours the last week than I played EVE in the last month :)

I'm interested in it... I don't remember if I wishlisted it yet... at the moment funds are running out so I haven't outright bought it yet...

If I can unload a bunch of my warhammer 40k stuff I'll see about buying this game...

Is Home of Light worth it? I just realized I didn't have that yet. I halfway don't want to buy it since I haven't even played the other X stuff... but I halfway DO want to buy it because of 'completion' issues :3

BTW... did a test run on my mic and camera while streaming... and it seemed to work great! I'll probably stream starting this coming Monday.

For X: Rebirth, Home of Light and Teladi Outpost are well worth it. They both add some new ships to play with and HoL adds tons of new areas to explore and a much needed station to aid your empire in growing. Both add several new weapons as well.
