EVE Online

EVE Online

Is it worth getting back into this game?
So I haven't played this game in at least 2 years, and I've been hearing news from players on what has been happening from time to time. Recently, out of lack of good or decent games to play on my spare time during the pandemic, I have been thinking of revisiting this gem of community driven games. My question is, is it worth it to try to get back into EVE Online or would it be too difficult to get back in because of how many active players have probably been playing this game for ungodly amounts of time already. If I do get back into this game, I'll probably just make a new character save as I've only played about 25 hours. What would you suggest for factions and backgrounds in the character creation, and how can I get some momentum in the game despite not remembering how the play this quite massive game.

Before we get to advice, can you tell us what kind of player you are, and what you enjoy doing?

I am the type of person who likes to have fun when playing games. Based on my background knowledge of the game, my least favorite thing is mining for money, as that just takes so much time. As soon as I had a combat capable ship when I first played, I started doing different combat and exploration oriented missions, mainly pve missions.
So in short, I'd say I like exploring and participating in combat. I am also a fairly laid back player, I don't normally get toxic unless I am already in a not so cash money mood and get bull shat on.

Then I think you're fairly compatible.

You don't have to worry about other players being there longer, or not being able to "catch up" to anyone. The game has a constant stream of new players entering, and old players leaving, so it's not really a concern.

The faction/race/etc. you choose don't matter at all, so just go by whatever appeals to you in terms of looks.

When you begin, go through the tutorial and career agents to get refreshed. Since you already dislike mining, I don't have to warn you to stay away from it. Just train for combat and exploration, and do that. Join a corporation soon, and try to avoid generic high-sec PvE corporations. Do your best to get some exposure to PvP training as soon as you can, because understanding that component of the game will enable you to become successful much quicker.

Thanks, will keep that in mind. I remember having some fun playing this game back in 2015-ish, and honestly I feel like this game has probably retained its popularity the longest compared to similar games. I even made a friend through this game so yeah.

Been dabbling myself this week after about 10 years break, I got a bit disgruntled with the limitations on Alpha and dipped my feet as a trial Omega. Eve is still everything you LOVE (and hate). Shotgun is wise, and I think that if you're back it's because the things you miss are drawing you in and if that's the case, I say indulge, and see how it works out.
