Looting?
Is there a reason I can't loot player wrecks? Do I seriously need to be an Omega clone for that?

You should be able to. Yellow wrecks means that you're not the owner and taking from them will flag you as a suspect who can be attacked by anyone.

You may not be able to take from them if your criminal setting is locked. Next to your capacitor there's a little dot, if it's green then you won't be able to take any action that will flag you in any way. If the dot is yellow, you can make suspect actions that will allow players to attack you. If the dot is red, you can make criminal actions which, in high sec, will call down the wrath of CONCORD on you.

Oh, okay. I was unaware that looting gave a suspect tag.

White wrecks are one's you or your corp own, blue wrecks are the wrecks of criminals or ones that have been abandoned and will not flag you.

The same applies to containers.

Okay. I found some wrecks when I was stalking around in nullsec, and I couldn't loot any of the very profitable contents. This irked me.

But now I know.

Well, in Nullsec, those rules don't apply but the status lock next to the capacitor does. Best advice I can give, set it to yellow and then be mindful of what you're doing when in highsec.

Okay, thanks for the assistance.

For reference, I don't usually attempt to loot or salvage other people's kills, but this particular spaceship graveyard was floating around without another player in sight.

This is EVE... If people take umbrage at you looting their wrecks... just shoot them.

And loot that wreck, too.

Well if I had the right ship and equipment for that, I wouldn't need to be creeping around nullsec and scavenging wrecks in the first place.

Still, very good thing that you went bravely to nullsec this early, some people never muster the courage to do that.

This link might help to understand the mechanics in highsec/lowsec/nullsec better: {LINK FJERNET}
