Thorax Generalist fit?
I'm flying a Thorax currently with 5 250mm railguns, mainly for lvl 1 and lvl 2 security missions.
However even at LVL 2 missions there is a suprising amount of frigates, and my big guns can't hit crap, on the other hand, my dual 150mms can't do crap against the cruisers.
My mid and low slots are fitted for the occassional PvP while I'm ratting, with webifiers and warp disrupters, with low slots fitted with CPU upgrades and warp drive stabilizers.
Should I equip some 200mm carbides? Or should I mount the dualies again?

Thing is that you don't fit PvP stuff for PvE and vice versa also duals have a terrible tracking if you must use T1 then use scouts but preferably T2 though lvl 1 and 2 shouldn't bring that much of a problem with any set up.

However a Vexor and especially Ishtar(T2) with full drone skills beats 'rax anyday on misson running and other PvE simply by virtue of being easier to fit when you don't have to put guns on it.

If you insist on doing PvE in a gunboat, then learn to kite/fly away so that the NPCs are forced to chase you in a straight line, which will allow you to track them much better. But overall, drones and missiles work better for PvE stuff.

Use the 250s and equip a tracking computer with tracking script.

*facepalm*

I suggest you go back to highsec, where is little pvp. Or you learn to read d-scan and local to identify threats in time. But with this fit, your mid and low slots are just wasted.

What fit do you recommend for ratting and PvE, with the ability to hold its own against maybe like a dessie ganker in 0.5. I'm in quiet sectors which are filled with miners and the occassional ganker, so while in local no one talks and the gankers obvisouly not gonna go "hey guys I'm a ganker"

No one's going to try to suicide-gank you if you're ratting in a T1 ship in high-sec, unless you're doing something ridiculous, like flying a faction-fit navy frigate. So you can go for a fully PvE-centric setup, if this activity is your goal.

I've seen people trying to gank T1 cruisers in my sector, we once had a Catalyst flying around webifiying Vexors and the like and killing newbies, probably thinking they had brought back some loot from low-sec ratting (?). The only thing I'm interested in knowing is blasters vs railguns.
Rails I find the 200mm rail guns to be quite effective with Anti-Matter charges and with a tracking computer it will be better.
I have yet to try Blasters but so far I know I need a MWD/afterburner to get in close, and the rest will be tanking fits. Are there any longer ranged blasters by any chance? I favour 5km ranges.

Not possible probable. This sort of aggression would trigger a CONCORD response. Ergo, it would have been a "suicide-gank." Trying to suicide-gank a T1 cruiser is more difficult than a Venture, because cruisers inherently have more hitpoints, and are usually mobile, unlike a mining ship, which sits still.

In order to be shot like that, you'd have to expose yourself to hostilities by doing something like stealing items that aren't yours, which would flag you as a suspect. So if you mind your business, the probability of someone attacking you is almost nonexistent.

if you are really enjoying PvE, I'd suggest that you try to get into a vindicator to to incursions. Blasters with web bonuses are the best way to deal damage if you can live long enough to apply it.

if you want to do solo missions, skill up to an ishtar or a Gila. Best mission boats are drone boats.
