Steam or not?
Should I play EVE through Steam or its own platform?
Pros and cons?

From what I've been hearing on here, playing through steam seems to have connection issues.

Besides, all Steam does is download the launcher anyway, Just cut out the middle man.

That said, I've also seen it mentioned that if you plan on paying for a subscription Steam can be cheaper depending on where you live.

I've got an account I made via steam and an account from 2010, I play both through the steam launcher without issue.

yeh you can do both, i installed the steam version, i feel its slightly safer somehow as in order to get my login information you'd need several more things besides the simple login into eve-online. (compared to purely an eve online account outside of steam)

Okay cool.. Thanks :) How about if my friend would want to recruit me? Would that have any impact on me getting premium and so forth later on?

How can i have my one year sub active with the steam version is a total mystery for me . I paid 130€ via steam to have a one year subscription and i'm still in mode "free player" in game . It sucks.

It kind of sounds like you're logging into a different account than the one the sub is on. I see a lot of people make this mistake. They get EVE on Steam, but then go and register for a standalone account on the website, when in fact they don't have to do that.

well yes i made an account after have buy the subscription as the process in steam to have a game is :

you pay >> you download the game >> you create an account

and in the mail from steam saying my payment is accepted and all this , i don't see any option to create an account in EVE .

I even tried to login with my steam user name and password but it don't work

Wrong order.

You download the game - it creates a steam account automaticly when you first start the launcher - you start throwing money at it.

EVE on Steam has a weird integration system in which an account is created for you when you get the starter pack. All you do is launch the game and hit the play button.

When i launch the game it lead me to the game launcher asking me to create an account . The bad thing is i can't ask a refund because i played more than 2 hours as a free capsuleer .

I think i will remove the game from my steam and just accept that i lost 130€ because the game is too much limited when playing as a free player . 80% of the ships are unusables , around 50% of the skills can't be learn too .

Or, you know, you can just restart on the fully-subscribed (no restrictions) Steam-bound account, and either ask CCP support to comp you the time due to the error, or ask for a free character transfer to your Steam account, which they most likely will do.

I can't give concrete directions on how to log into your Steam EVE account, but there should be some kind of selector in the launcher. If everything else fails, just reinstall the launcher. If there's an option in the launcher settings to delete launcher cache, that should work as well.

Starter pack cost me just 5 USD when it was on sale.
thats the only reason why i get it here.

The only diference is steam logs in for you.
if you dont want to run steam every time you want launch eve you can create an username and set a password and log in whererever you want.

For a game that costs money to play, that is if you want full content, then it seems the security of Steam would be appriciated..

Don't let them rip you off, contact the developer support, not steam. I had similar issues because I had multiple Eve accounts prior to playing it on steam, it eventually got resolved.

To answer OP's question, if you've played Eve before you're better off just using the non-steam version. Prior accounts can get all screwy when you try to pay for plex or subs etc on Steam. I've never seen a worse account management system than the integrated steam version, so many ways to screw up and have payments applied to the wrong account (if you previously had multiple eve accounts on non-steam version).

If you've never played before then the Steam version is the best in my opinion. Automatic login based on your steam ID, and payment for plex etc is easier since you can just use your wallet.
