How do ship skins work?

So when you buy one, it's only for that particular ship right? If in the cash shop store I buy The Raata Sunset skin for the Omen it's only for that one right?

How about how how skins work in general? Are they used up? Buy Omen skin and apply it and now it's gone so if my ship blows up I need to buy it again?

Yes to all. You apply it to 1 ship and the skin will be lost if your ship pops.

Lets say the pretty much starter ship venture : ton of skins but not for purchase? incl. in the new eden store.

For a returning player its confusing, i dont know where to look?

The ship license you buy is for that particular ship. You can apply it to any unit of that ship you own via the loadout screen (there's a << icon to the left that will expand it to allow you to select your skin). You can apply the skin at any time.

I use skins on a number of ships, good times.
