You can group like weapons in-game, they have to be the exact same. There are two ways that I know of, the easiest is to be undocked and click the little infinity symbol next to your capacitor. You can also hold down either shift or ctrl, its been a while since I've used this method, while looking at the fitting window or space and click and drag.
I believe it's possible to set up macros to do things like launch drones as well.
What you can't do, is set up macros that completely automate a character. Put another way, you can't use macros to bot.
also i heard about the grouping of modules/weapons, im going to try it out at some point. thanks for the reply
Until recently, when I was forced to replace my old keyboard, I had a few macros to activate weapons, webs, and points in various combinations. So things like pushing f1, f2, and f3 simultaneously with one keystroke. Though I never really made use of them, they weren't nearly as helpful as I'd have thought when I made them.
For other things though I knew a guy some years ago that completely remapped his keyboard though the in-game utilities so that he could activate modules with his left hand and either remapped one of his extra mouse buttons or used the mouse's software to make one of it's extra bottons register as the shift key to turn on overheating, I'm a little fuzzy on the details, this was like four years ago. Either way, he could overheat his modules without ever moving a hand off his module keys or taking time out of his manual piloting, which he was excellent at.
Also, I would caution against getting too wedded to the idea of macros. While they have their place, you can find yourself over extended with them. EVE isn't like other games where you bind a bunch of different actions to a single key press and then only use that button.
As you've said, you're still new to the game, I'd recommend learning to play the game without them for a bit, that way you know where they will and won't be helpful.
