The main thing you should be aware of is the distinction between creating your own sell order, and filling in someone else's buy order. If you're creating a sell order, you're putting the items up on the market inside the station in which they're located. If you're filling a buy order, your distance to that buy order is dictated by the buy order's range (which is set by the person creating the buy order).
If you merely make a sell order in some out-of-the-way system, the chances of it being bought are low, unless you price it accordingly, so that the buyer is incentivized to buy at a remote location, and then haul it somewhere else. If you want to get the best price for your goods, it's probably a good idea to take them to a market hub, such as Jita 4-4 CNAP.
I highly suggest you compress the ore at any player owned station that does refinement, this makes it easier to ship in bulk and generally increases the value of the ore.
Bear in mind that the number of sell orders one can have outstanding is limited by one's skills (under the trade category iirc), so for a product like ore which is bought and sold in large quantities it's often best to collect a large number of units to sell and then list them all at once under a single sell order.
