Ratting in Null
1. How does it work, do I look for combat sites and things.
2. I am progressing down the Amarr ships, what ships do you recommend to rat with (I know amarr isn't the best, but I enjoy)
3. I'm in the Delve region where the blood raiders live, so what's best suited for these in terms of equipment.

All comment will be apreciated, I have just moved into null sec yesterday and wanting to try ratting.

Combat sites is where 90% of the null ratting is done. You find them in your probe scanner view. Each site has a level of diffuculty. there are a lot of guides on doing sites out there. Idealy you want to fit to tank the damage type the npcs shoot and arm for the damage holes in the npc defenses. Rattlesnakes and Nightmares are common pirate ships that players use. Not too sure what Amarr ship would work best.

I know with a t1 cruiser you can take on the belt rats, you should be able to take on the low level combat anoms.
One of the most efficient means of ratting I found was using a T2 Tachyon-fit Oracle with as much damage and speed as possible. You come in at 100, and then align away. Start with the frigates first, and work your way up. The spawns will usually be dead before they get anywhere near you.

it is indeed possible to rat in null as an alpha i know brave has ratting doctrine for each factions cruiser.

I assume they are doing this in groups? or targets are very limited?
in groups and lower end site
1.- no combat sites yet. Warp to asteroid belts and gain some combat expirience using T1 crusiers then move to combat sites from cosmic sigantures using T3 crusiers or faction battleships (you are going to need this ships)
2.- For anomalies you need T2 cruciers (ishtar in my opinion is the best but is a gallente ship) for nice dps and mobility or a battleship if you like the slow boats. (T2 turrets are adviced)
3 - Termal and EM damage is the best againts bloods.
Use long range turrets because they may use cap neutralizers (this ones will drain your capacitor and will kill your tank) and Afterburner for avoid damage.

Ask your null corp/alliance members for fits.
Good luck.

You can run a Haven, which is the hardest site, solo in an alpha clone. You need to rely on speed. A Vexor, or ideally Vexor Navy Issue is required for this.

combat sites appear as Anomalies on your probe scanner (no probes or scanning required). generally, rally points might be the easiest ones, so whichever ship u end up trying, start there.

blood raiders turn out to be fairly good for amarr, since they're weak to EM/therm dmg. however, lasers use substantial cap, have limited range, and are subject to tracking misses.

even for amarr, the ideal ratting ship would still use drones. this means:
- Dragoon for dessy
- Arbi for cruiser
- Prophecy for bc
look for drone traits.

relevant skills in order of importance:
1. Drones V (for 5 drones, each drone = 20% of dmg output)
2. Drone Interfacing (10% drone dmg per level, get to 4 asap)
3. Drone Avionics + Advanced (+5km drone control range per level, get to 4/3 asap)
4. Engineering skills for fitting & cap - Power Grid, CPU, Capacitor Management (get 4-5)
5. Navigation, Afterburner, Fuel Conservation (for keeping AB up and getting more speed)
6. Armor/Shield tank skills
7. Energy Turret skills

also, it must be pointed out that if you are going to train drones for ratting, the VNI is probably still the easiest to get to while hitting 350-550dps for best isk ticks. VNI is also fairly cheap and easy to fit with a variety of options (armor rep tank or shield tank or even plain sig tank). all you need is omega and some gallente skills.
