Unable to start game

Anyone else having the issue of trying to start the game, a full black screen opens, the cursor changes to big and blue but then rainbow spinning wheel of death? So my game isn't even able to open at all. I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling.

I have a similar problem, I can open the game, but there is only a black screen and the cursor changes, I can even hear the title soundtrack and the sound of the cursor hovering over menu buttons, but I cannot see anything

I need you to go in your save file location.

Steam\SteamApps\common\SubnauticaZero\SNAppData\SavedGames

Move away the options folder and start the game.

Then tell me if it works, and tell me if you're in experimental. Thank you.

I'm also having a similar problem. I try to start a new game and everything seems normal at first. The loading screen shows up and it takes a few seconds. Then the screen goes black and I think I can hear the first few seconds of the opening cut scene playing. Then the window suddenly shuts down and another one pops up saying SubnauticaZero.exe has stopped working, and that Windows is reporting the problem to Microsoft. I don't know if this means that Windows or Microsoft is causing the problem, or if the game itself just isn't working.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and I've even tried playing the experimental branch but the same thing keeps happening.

Your issue is different from the post above my first message.
In your case, I think you will be able to start a game in creative mode. Something in the intro makes your game crash.

If it isn't a freeze, you can check the Player.log file in:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Unknown Worlds\Subnautica_ Below Zero

But if it freezes, the game won't write anything useful there. So you have to check the issue elsewhere. Probably hardware or driver related.

The exact same thing happened to me- I'm on macos and i double checked the requirements, turned to experimental and legacy, restarted and updated my computer, and reinstalled it- but it still was a black screen. Also, the game didn't even start when I wasn't using experimental/legacy.
