Afterburner lights up but doesn't trigger

just installed the afterburner in slot 1. i click "1" to trigger that slot but nothing happens other than the item lights up..

You have to click after selecting. You can use shift also.

y would u actually add steps to trigger something? classic over engineering.

I guess it's to avoid triggering everything when cycling through hotbar slots.

If you have multiple activatable modules, you need a way to select, then fire.
In mine, for example, I can use either the perimeter defense or the afterburners. I select which before I click. It's not really over-engineered, IMO.
