Controller issues

I played the first Subnautica with a controller and there was one small issue (that seems to be present here aswell) of the RT (R2) and LT (L2) buttons switching places (using a DS4 through Steam, not sure if that matters). Here there seems to be support for multiple controller layouts but if I select DS4, the controls get all messed up, even though that is the controller I am using. So I have to select either the xbox 360 or automatic layout for it to work (haven't tried xbox one).

But a much bigger issue I'm having is with the hotkey for assigning gear to the quickslots, in the first game this was the A-button (X), but here it is assigned to d-pad up. Now the d-pad is also used for inventory navigation, meaning I can only assign items in the upper row of the inventory to the quickslots. This makes the game pretty much unplayable with a controller right now.

Now this seems to be a design choice, rather than a bug because when I select the option to return to the default controller layout, it's still dpad up (can anyone confirm?).

I honestly thought the controller support in the first game was a bit glitchy, but you could get used to the bottom triggers switching places from time to time, but here it's just... broken. I do realize it's still in early release though, but I'm wondering if there are other people experiencing this issue.

Edit: and I also don't see an option to directly select the key for assigning items, otherwise I probably wouldn't have made this post.

Ive tried to play again after not playing for a while and the controller just does what it wants now. Its a shame because it stops me playing the game and its not even finished yet. I hate how steam takes over controllers and then if you turn off Steam overlay to use games in built controller support it still doesnt work. Steam controller configurator is horrendous to use and so I play less and less games now because of it.

Today I switched to the experimental build and my controller (XBox One Elite) is doing weird things. I made my way through the glacier basin/arctic spire with the prawn suit, all was ok. Then I wanted to drive home with my seatruck and it was like the controller was losing its connection every few seconds, the seatruck stopped for two seconds, then moved again for five seconds ._. Back home in my base, no problem, it's happening only with the seatruck.

To anyone having issues with L1 R1 being reversed, it may fix some other issues too. On the Steam client right click on the game, select properties and then select the Controller tab. Disable Steam input for the controller type you’re using. That fixed it for me.
