is there a map feature?

I played it when it first came out but lost interest due to getting lost often. was wondering if they added a map feature to the game since

There's a map of the game area that you can scan at one of the bases, but it doesn't mark where you are or anything like that.

There is a map mod, which marks your position on the map.

a tip would also be to use beacons which shows up in screen like life pods. place them at key points and give them names like "underwater cave" or whatever. i too used to get lost in the first game, but after i started using beacons it became a breeze navigating the waters.
