If i were to pick a favourite, the Deep Grand Reef would be my favourite in Subnautica. As for Below Zero, I haven't made a final decision but I do really like the Deep Lilypads Cave. i really like the calmness of it lol.

Crystal caves, feels like a cavern full of mysteries to explore.

Love the music and the crystals, my personal favorite too

In the previous game, probably the sandy area near the crash site, but it's likely only the most memorable for me because it was my first encounter with a specific creature that can be found there, and not because of the environment itself I guess.

In this game, honestly, the empty, open iceberg area in the far east. I'm probably the only player who will say that but there was something unique about it. The very clear visibility, the whales swimming slowly around the ice, and the feeling of actually being in the deep ocean. Sadly this game doesn't give me that feeling literally anywhere else. Everything is so shallow and cramped, and the overuse (my opinion) of oxygen plants makes it feel cheap to descend very, very deep without any real risk in some areas that might otherwise give you this feeling of exploration.

There's a special allure, at least to me, about the deep, dark emptiness of the blue water and the profound sense of humbling insignificance you feel knowing that on every side, above and below, is just nothing, for far further than you can see or maybe even imagine. This is one of my favorite experiences diving irl as well. It's not all about reefs and colorful fish, people. The ocean itself can be beautiful too.

Grand cotton caves. Its got it all. Looks nice, has a lot of high-level resources, above it are the lilypad islands which have your basic resources, and it has pretty much zero threat since squidsharks are rare. It has even less threat than the damn twisty bridges which is a terrible oversight but that and everything else makes it a good place to build. The precursor skeleton is also down there so as soon as you get a good enough oxygen tank you can just immediately get it.

You find out about the body parts existing after the very first actual "mission", it really isn't that big of a spoiler.

In Subnautica it was the Safe Shallows, simply because of how breathtaking it was as the very first time seeing underwater detail rendered so perfectly.

For Below Zero, I would say the crystal <spoiler> because damn is it hauntingly beautiful.

They all look so good but I think my favorite is the Lilly pad biome. I like how it looks and sounds at night

In the Lilypads where you can get a good view of the Glow Whales. It's very lively. But you know, ♥♥♥♥ those hypno seahorses.

With a beast inside.

I don't see the appeal of the crystal caves. The fabricator caverns sure but the crystal caves are just terrible. They're legit just a big dark open space with some crystals thrown around. It literally looks like it's halfway through its concept stage.

Crystal Caves, by far. The music is great IMO, and the emptiness of the biomes is a bit of an appeal to me. Due to the large open spaces and hostile leviathans, it reminds me of the Lost River, which was my favorite biome in the original game.

The biome overall just... panders to me. Heavily.

i can't for the life of me like any biome so much as to wanna make a base there. in the original i always made my bases in the thickest parts of Kelp Forests, using the natural formation of the biome to twist and turn my hallways and hide myself among the kelp with nice lighting during both night and day. but in Below Zero the Kelp Forest's different colors make my eyes bleed.

i tried building bases elsewhere and found that the center of Deep Lilypads Cave biome had the most warmth, with those hanging plants and glowing flowering spores that i scattered around my base, but the constant deep dive travelling, tightness to reach it and confined space made it not suitable for me. i like having a view of the ocean and life around me.
i also tried Lilypads Islands but the emptiness around me (no solid ground) also didn't suit me well. plus the islands didn't have that much flora on them for me to surround myself with.

in the end even though biomes look great none just suit me. when the game comes out in a few days i will try making my base on the seafloor of Lilypads Islands because of all the flora and fauna that surround the place, but being so far away from everything else might not suit me yet again, but we'll see. point is, no clear winners for me in Below Zero.
