Floating Air Pump is mounted on the surface
Base-attached Air Pump is mounted on a habitat.
There's only one pump in BZ, and it's the floating one.
They must have just copied/pasted the page from the Subnautica wiki over to the BZ wiki.
If you want to go deep in the beginning of the game you can do this with pipes and an air pump and build it down , every 50 meters or so you put a pipe to the side for some air. it isn't ideal, but its fun to go where you aren't supposed to yet. It's an option that does not have to be used but I think it DOES have a use
I'd argue you are better off spending the time on upgrading your equipment.
So, not quite useless, but not the best option either.
It's probably most useful for those people who set themselves arbitrary restrictions to make the game more challenging. In that case it can replace the use of a vehicle for access to air.
Now that I think about it, it might also be fun to build an underwater plantation without any actual base structures and just pipes for air.
