I think it's because in the first one the character was silent and I never saw the body, always first person view and it was just me.
In this one I look at myself with a robo penguin and I see a character who is not me. She talks a fair amount and it doesn't sound like me. There is a lot of interaction with an alien and the replies I don't connect with. Too much character breaks the immersion that 'I am stuck in an alien ocean'. Now it feels like 'someone else is stuck in an alien ocean'. As a character she is fine but I enjoyed the first one feeling more like I was actually there.
Basically everywhere.
All the heroic characters are women, a large part of the cast is homosexual and the heterosexual white males are almost a freak show: we have a guy who looks like a pink molten turd with glasses, an old fart who obsesses over guano, the lab weirdo who makes paintings of bacteria and some doofus underling with a ridicolous mustache.
All these things don't bother me per se - i hang out with people of every orientation - but the way they are implemented is blathant and frankly it annoys me.
Also what Robin says - it being mostly individualist drivel - is punctuated by bouts of leftiness.
And that's not counting the plot, which is a seen-before-so-much-it-hurts evil corporation being evil and brave person trying to stop them kind of deal.
I mean sure lol let's blow up the lab, it's not like it might make everything a thousand times worse. Whoever wrote that clearly cares more about themes than logic.
Thank God for Maida. She saves the whole thing for me.
(full disclosure: i haven't beaten the story yet)
also what guy that looks like a pink molten turd is in the game?
She could at least say stuff when she finds pda with useful info. She could say stuff after visiting a new biome or leviathan. She could tell us how she fells at some situations especially since she has alan in her. She is so barebones that I cant believe they said "story is nearly done".. The first story had more VA. I'm pretty sure.
She only says some small one liners. For a game that wants to tell us a story there isnt really much story in it tbh.
They could also do more with maida and alterra.. alterra is supposed to find Robin and Maida right? Why arent there alterra bots or something on the hunt? Maida is basically just there to give you one fetch quest, one piece of info, some scans, plotholes and some pda where she goes rambo 8.. the way she is implented I just hate her for blocking the perfect base spot.
If the finale doesnt give us quests to escape the planet with maida together while alterra is hunting for us and alan making some fireworks. I call the story.. total wreckfest.
Again for a game that wants to tell us a story instead of letting us immerse fully in it. There is kinda none.
Michael Burnham is pretty OK though. I've not met new Robin yet so can't compare but thank you for not downplaying the new Robin as much as I've seen elsewhere in the forum.
Spot on lol. Except UNW are not destroying the Subnautica franchise. At least not as bad.
A Mary Sue who can't act and is forced as a Spock sister who never existed is "pretty OK"?
Lol whatever floats yer boat.
It's three actually. We have Sam, Danielle and Manager Guy.
The pink turd man is the one called Parvan Ivanov. I mean c'mon look at him.
Michael isn't the best character or any favorite of mine, not even close. But Michael could have been a lot worse. Maybe my expectations are just low I suppose and after hearing soooo much about how terrible Robin is I'd be happy to end up with a Michael :)
Nono, after all Michal is indeed ways better than Robin.
That’s like a very minor part of the cast
Also parvin looks more like a stereotypical mall cop, fat, got crumbs on his shirt
Has that gun he isn’t allowed to shoot
this is exactly why I stopped watching it after Michelle Yeoh died. The show is just so blah now. Equivalent to the current, Robin.
