So ... what exactly happened to Sam? (spoilers, obviously...)
Well I found the antidote and injected it into the frozen leviathan.

Next thing Robin says is that "she found out what happened to Sam".

I have plenty of journals about how she was right about Alterra, and how she hid the antidote and bla bla, but I can't find the one that says what actually happened to her.

Can someone help explain?

Also, is this really the end of the Sam part of the game? It feels like I've hardly done anything and there must be more. Is it really this short?

I feel kind of let down a bit!

Did you find the PDA in Marguarit's greenhouse? Did you also listen to the PDA audio log from the investigator? It pretty much tells you everything.

Edit: But yes, that is literally the end of the Sam plot. Yeah. A huge disappointment but at least there is some more to do.

She blew herself up or something because her cure wouldn’t work. Then we come in and use the cure to finish her life’s work. Such great story telling

That's a pretty common feeling with the Sam storyline. Yes, that's the end of the Sam part. You did it. Yay.

This prompted me to look through the logs again.

Somehow I forgot about the investigators report, or maybe didn't read it properly.

Now I get it, thank you! Marguerit told her to blow up the cave and she killed herself while trying to do it. That's apparently all there is to it :steamsad:

So Sam says she has the cure and wants to apply it, but I don't even see anything about her actually having tried it. It's unclear from that PDA entry why they felt they needed to blow up the cave.

She seems to have gone straight from synthesising it, to hiding it and then blowing up the cave, without actually attempting to use the cure.

Am I overthinking this?

I'm honestly in shock that that's all there was to it. Can't believe the main story was so short.

She noticed that Alterra already took samples to mutate it and stuff. So simply curing the leviathan wouldnt cut it anymore. Thus, she had to do way more than that. Sam didnt intend on killing herself as her plan was to set the bomb off to destroy absolutely everything in that chamber. But she was held up by the security guy, forcing her to detonate herself. Or maybe the bomb went off accidentally during a struggle she had with the security.

All in all, she didnt want to die. She wanted to destroy the leviathan and the samples taken from it but it backfired and she accomplished nothing. Well, she accomplished death. So it isnt really nothing.

But yes, the story is surprisingly short and empty.

I would have at least been nice to have one last conversation between Robin and Maida about it. Expressions of regret, venting of emotions, some kind of closure.

I guess, the story was too rushed to get this worked out. On the other hand, maybe they didn't want to push a reaction on the player. Looking back at the original subnautica, they don't have much experiance with character interaction.

Are you kidding me? They are pushing reactions on the player throughout the whole game. It starts with Robin raising her hands against the sun and ends with her deciding to follow Al-An to his homeworld. All without any input from the player.

No, it's just plain bad writing. Stop looking for excuses for them.

it seemed to me that she was trying to get marguerite to administer the cure, likely to hide her own part in it. marguerite convinced her to do something more drastic and as we saw in the first game all her plans tend toward the violent solutions to her problems. just seemed like sam agrees to her methods a bit easily

Oh, thank you for the spoiler about the Al-An ending in a thread about the Sam storyline :steamsad:

Don't start a spoiler thread if you don't want spoilers.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting spoilers for a part of the game unrelated to the topic of the thread. Maybe I needed to make that clearer...

Exactly. There's now way to know what connected events will be discussed. The best move is to finish the story, then talk about it.
