I guess I'll keep scouring the area.
In which case, pardon my french, but f*ck this for artificially lengthening the game duration.
Nothing would have been lost by just introducing a damn beacon. Like what happens in every other part of the game.
Yes, that's sarcasm -- but I'm pretty sure that this kind of feedback, given during the EA period, is why there are so few beacons for plot critical locations.
The particular cave is in the location specified -- that is, once you've found the docks and the frozen leviathan there is a "peninsula" of higher land that divides the two spaces. The cave you are looking for is contained in the "tip" of that peninsula. If I'm remembering correctly, there is another research location that isn't shown on the map in that area, but it is located on the "wall" that marks the border of the glacial basin area rather than the peninsula itself.
If you think this is annoying, wait until you have to explore the arctic spires biome. At least here you have a map (and thus, a relatively small area to search) -- there you just have a vague hint that there's something useful in the area.
Or am I looking in the completely wrong place?
Actually, comparing my surroundings to what I can see on the map, I'm pretty convinced the map is downright lieing about the cave's location.
