where should i build my first above water base?

What are you wanting out of it, a scanner room? I would probably think to put in between, so that it covers both.

It depends on what do you want the base for. What's the reason you're building on land?

Better is relative though depending on what you're looking for. They have slightly different resources and such.

If you simply want to have a land base and don't really care about anything else, than I'd go with the Glacial Basin simply due to lack of Arctic Worms.

I would build near the dock right in the middle. It's a good spot for a scanner room since it will pick up most of the region. It gives you multiple exit points -- the underwater route, north through the purple forest, and west past Phi Robotics. And it's generally peaceful and quiet.

Exactly where I built one of my scanning stations! Having that scanner room there helped me make some key discoveries in the area.

And yeah, the scanner also shows Spy Pengling locations. Pretty useful.

That's a convenient area. I recently built at that exact same spot, only I made a skybridge that allowed me to bypass the actual one.

The only land base I ever built...in the earlier version...that I wasn't able to finish before the story-line was changed.
Thought it would be cool to go back into where the original base was destroyed.
