No reason to build a "home" in Below Zero?
One of the main attractions for me in Subnautica was how we were incentivized to create a home. We were stranded on an alien planet, no other humans in sight, and we had no way of getting back home. So it became very natural to create a home, expand the base, and decorate with the things you found along the way.

I never felt the urge to decorate my base in Below Zero. After all, we're in the middle of Alterra territory, where our sister died. Why would I take the time hanging art on the wall and creating a cosy bedroom?

Story aside, this was the biggest part that I miss from the original game. Below Zero doesn't give me that "survival game-feeling".

Does anyone else feel the same? If not, what kept you motivated to decorate your base and build a home?

I built my first base yesterday in the Twisty Bridges (in between the Landing Pod and Delta Dock), and even though I could just use a mobile base at this point, I have enough raw materials overflowing in my first base's lockers that I decided I'm going to build another base on the other side of Delta Island, just so that I have another "jumping off" point.

I'm actually thinking of building my 2nd base right next to Marguerit's base. Is that weird? The location seems interesting, and that cavern is enormous.
Lol, those were basically the two places I built my bases too. Sounds like we chose almost the same spot in Twisty, and my second one was very close to Marguerit (on top of the cave entrance going down to her). I was very happy with my base locations, if you want to build there - go for it! :)

Agreed.

I am either not building "homes", but rather bases with some different approach.

First one is my "Twisty base" probably quite similar to the one you built:

It's merely the "main base" and will be the one that is closest to the Drop Pod.
Woooah! No, my bases are just two or three modules, enough to keep my food production going, my batteries charged, and my stuff stored. :) But that was really cool to see. (I wish we could use the new building parts in Subnautica, or maybe it's been added?)

Nothing added in Below Zero has been ported back to Subnautica. Not even the ability to *rotate* the Moonpool, something that was requested all throughout Subnautica's EA period.

Thanks. :)

Having just a few modules is perfectly enough.
As I previously said, I tend to go full ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the base building aspect of the game. ^^
What I do is merely useless, but it's very joyful for me to create such nice building complexes.
Gotta love these games for that. :D

And yeah, I would wish to have these new parts in original Subnautica too.
It was said that they update the original's stable branch shortly after the release of BZ.
So we can still hope about an addition, but I guess only the "Quality of Life"-stuff will be added (like proper battery charge being visible, etc.).

Yes, but then again it was officially stated that there will be a big update on the stable branch, including some of Below Zero's additions.
Yet I am pretty sure they just mean the QoL-stuff. :/

If you use the Snowfox, slap down a pad at the dock in Glacier Bay with some Solar Panels to charge it.

The snowfox pad doesn't need solar panels. Its a standalone unit so there must be a built in power source.

That's perfectly true.

Sorry if I spread confusion about this in my video, as I simply like that one energy beam that leads to the Snowfox Pad. :(

I even did the same on my Grand Hotel and it's completely unnecessary. XD
Just did it for the looks. ^^

I built one just to say I did. Never decorated it beyond one room with storage and essentials. I never felt there was much incentive to actually making a cool base beyond having one. The amount of time spend on the story is pretty short and the map is small enough that you can explore almost all of it on your first play though.

There's also other threads addressing this issue but base building is arguably the same as it was in the first game baring a few new decor items. If you've experiment in base building Subnautica there's really no reason to do it all over again here other then to try the new furniture items.

Just out of curiosity, as I never built a landbase in the original.
Do hatches spawn stairs there too?

Yes, but they can be buggy sometimes and disappear.

The original SN doesn't add stairs to landbases at all. That's one of the nice improvements of this one.

Sure, but so long as you could reach the hatch it didn't matter. I usually put a platform just below to make up for that, as well as to have a flat spot for grow beds.

Thanks for confirming.

@wardenwolf
Well, I agree with the stairs being buggy in BZ, as I sometimes see some spawned at an underwater hatch, but these disappear upon reload.
The land stairs have their issues from time to time, but it indeed is a nice addition. :D
