Subnautica is also a better game.
No, it's not "bad", but for many who really loved Subnautica the game feel is very different. The devs made a conscious decision to offer a slightly different type of game narrative, and then they had staff problems. None of that matters. If you think you'll like the idea of underwater exploration and base-building, then I'd recommend both games.
I would start with the first, however, as there are story elements in Below Zero that will spoil important narrative reveals in Subnautica. Ultimately it's on you though. If you're really concerned about it, wait for a crazy good sale and get it then.
Story-wise, the two titles are only loosely related.
I think BZ is kind of alright, but it is simply a huge downgrade from SN for me.
"made for young audience" - definitly can agree.
"Waste of time" - yes, kinda. especially if u pay full price on it. Dont do that.
Ok, so ima say: definitly play SN first! And then maybe BZ later if u still feel like it, but dont expect the same kind of pleasure and experience. It is not.
Doesn't feel like a waste for me.
@Topic
I like both games very much. It's easier to get lost in the first one as the map is bigger and the biomes - especially the grassy plateus and kelp forests - can confuse you as there are more areas where these mentioned biomes are used.
So if you think you are at the right spot as you are at a grassy plateu, it must not be the grassy plateu where you actually want to be.
BZ has a smaller map with which you may get better used to.
Even after 170 hrs in Subnautica I still get lost from time to time.
In BZ I just get lost in the cave mazes or on land. The glacial basin and the arctic spires can be pretty confusing.
No offense but i cant take u serious like that. Dont understand it either, but, well, u do yours.
Then you are only picking the comments that suit your statement or have not read anything at all. XD
That's a positive, no?
Very positive.
One shouldn't play Below Zero for the story. XD
What I like about it is, that the atmosphere and the biomes are pretty unique and I got used to the map pretty quick.
And you can clutter it with bases. ^^
The Steam forums seem to be disproportionately negative toward Below Zero for some reason. On the Steam store, the game has a 90% positive approval rating. On these forums, you'd think the game was terrible given many of the comments, even though the vast majority of players enjoyed it.
I don't think it's as good as the original SN and definitely has major story flaws and some gameplay issues. But the game is gorgeous and still a tremendous amount of fun on its own. It also seems to perform a lot better than the original.
But then again people being disappointed probably have a higher urge to speak out their frustration, while people on the "meh, was ok" side probably just give it a thumbs up and dont talk about it anymore.
One thing though, we can probably say with quite some clearity that there are not many people hyped about BZ , since then they would also have an urge to talk in the forum, just positive stuff.
So in conclusion i would say the opinions range is from "ugh, this game sucks", and "meh, was ok" mostly.
The forum is not only buyers. Plenty of people who don't own the game comment on the game. Especially as it relates to SubNautica.
