You'll find the blueprint in the Mercury II Bow.
"Bring salads"
But they left the repulsion cannon in :P
And in the same patch that took out the stasis gun, they amped up hostile spawns and slowed all player movement so outrunning several things stopped being possible.
It was a bit of a mixed message situation, IMO.
I spoiled myself on the scanning. Seeing all those empty pictures with no descriptions after scanning things deep down in the hidden areas... really took the fun out of that aspect.
I guess the knife and its delicious thermal counterpart aren't weapons. Honestly it just sounds like their ability to be rational short circuited. Also, my recollection from the first game is that the stasis rifle doesn't kill anything...
I mean, if we're going to go that route, then simply knowing the game trivializes gameplay. The stillsuit in BZ has a similar effect, as does the Prawn suit with respect to the above water biomes. Oh yeah, and salads...
I'm pretty sure one of the hostile creature's descriptions says "Attack it to get it to back off" too, so like... Yeah, big mixed message here.
I ironically found that this behavior encouraged me to actively kill creatures just to get them to leave me alone. It's one thing not to f with nature; it's quite another not to be able to defend yourself from unsolicited attacks that could kill you. After constantly getting attacked by Snow Stalkers every time I'd get lost, I just started circle strafing and killing them on sight -- 5 thermal blade hits and they go down. I felt bad for the motherless pups you see in the area, but if I can't even make it through a cave without being constantly bothered, I'm taking out the creature.
I think the design expectation was that you actually use the little tricks to get around that. In the stalker's case I think it's light? But that forces the player to sacrifice inventory slots for single purpose equipment. I agree with you, much simpler to just deal with them. Of course, I say hello to them with my Prawn Suit...
Same with the ice worms. Why deal with the snow fox and thumpers when I can just prawn my way through and have, what, increased inventory, protection from the cold, and the ability to mine the deposits that exist all the way out there. So clearly there was some expectation that you'd bring a prawn suit...ow, my head. The writing and the game design...it hurts
- Leviathans: Easily scanned, as others said just bring health packs and use them as needed, as long as your health is close to 100% you'll be fine. Just a matter of being brave enough to swim up and scan them.
- Snow stalkers: Just hold a flare, its annoying having to carry some around all the time on land, but in a way I'm glad, I felt flares in the original game had no worthwhile use.
So just use ur truck instead. Full time ramming anything that moves kills everything that moves fairly easy.
Apparently thats not as violent as freezing sealife.
U can scan them later.
Edit: And for the land creatures, just pummle them to death with the prawn - or shred them. This is perfectly acceptable, since it is such a peaceful way of interacting with the locals.
Lol, so true. I even try and avoid hitting fish and sea monkeys with the truck. But yeah, game is easily as violent as you want to make it, so the removal of a non-lethal weapon was kind of nonsensical. Probably because of the word "rifle". If it'd been the Stasis Thingamajig it'd still be in the game.
The devs don't want the players to commit acts of violence towards living things, yet they also included a main character that revels in murdering animals, displaying their skeletons, and even grafting their body parts to her PRAWN suit. And the game doesn't treat her actions as though she's a villain, which is all the more surprising/hypocritical.
