Default Jukebox songs
Is it just me or are the in-game jukebox selections all t e r r i b l e?

Like I turned down the sound because I was embarrassed my wife would think I was listening to that on purpose and enjoying it. Like that bad.

Anyone else?

No. Nerdout, JT Music and Miracle of Sound are excellent youtube musicians. Imho better than 100% of current mainstream music.

But hey if game inspired songs from them arent high quality enough. You might aswell use your own music you like.

So use your own music?

Copy music files into this location:

Windows: C:\Users\yourname\Music\Unknown Worlds\Subnautica

OSX: Users/yourname/Music/Unknown Worlds/Subnautica

Only files that use the .mp3, .ogg, .wav, or .flac formats are supported.

I think they're all quite good. I'll sometimes add a sleep module to my SeaTruck just to listen to the music when I've traveling around.

I never bother with the default jukebox songs - not because I think they are terrible but because they don't match my musical preferences.

I already am. I was just surprised at how bad it is. I mean I don't expect to like everything, it's fine, but being driven to cringe is just... not expected.

Can't say they are (all) bad, there's some decent tracks there. It's just... OST contributes a lot more to the immersion, at least for me.

Read my above post... You can put your own mp3s into the game and remove the ones that play.

While that's true, if people like to use "shuffle" there would still the ingame Jukebox songs be playing.

There is a console function to get ALL of the ingame Jukebox songs at once.
Yet I haven't seen one to remove them.

So, best bet would be to NOT collect any of the disks if you do not want to have these in your jukebox and start with your custom music right away.
Oof that's bad.

That's just shocking to hear. Just scanning the billboard summer songs charts we have the weekend, silk sonic, and maroon 5. I don't listen to any of them personally, but I can recognize that they're as close to objectively good as you can get.

I mean yeah, there's a bunch of boring pop ♥♥♥♥ on the list, but at least it's technically good. Some generic kpop band is at number one and the song is filled with the same chord progressions you hear over and over, but at least the production and talent is phenomenal.

Nerdout, JT Music and Miracle of Sound are par talents at best, but their lyricism is *terrible*. It's approximately the quality level of late 90's jrpg writing. I literally physically cringe with sympathetic embarrassment when I hear it. And I mean, just go to nerdout's youtube and listen to his splash page song; it's full of stock, unprocessed soundboard samples. For sure, they're talented amateurs... but they're only talented amateurs.

I feel sad for the guy if he thinks this is good music. Hopefully he's just really young and has no idea what is actually out there for people with developed tastes.
And I'm sort of shocked that the subnautica team actually hired a professional that thought it would be a good idea to contract those guys.

This is what happens when creators put politics before quality. I strongly doubt the music director of the first game, which they fired later for publicly criticizing the producer for injecting politics into their game, would have allowed this to happen. His sound design was very good.

Go to menu, turn music off, alt tab and open youtube or Spotify etc and play the Playlist you made ahead of time and then click SBZ on the task bar and play. I prefer power metal like Unleash The Archers etc because I'm a base building ♥♥♥♥♥ and it passes time mining better
Yeah that's serviceable, but non-optimal. I really like the atmosphere of only hearing your music when you're near a jukebox. Hopping in your sea truck and watching the scenery pass while you listen to metal, then leaving your truck and the music fades as you swim farther from safety into some crevasse, eventually transitioning to a moody ambience, is a great experience. It's thematically appropriate - while you're in your anatopistic, man-made shell you listen to intrusive, anatopistic music that's dischordant with the environment, and while you're in nature you listen to subtle, harmonious music that seems to come from the environment itself.

That's why I want to get rid of the bad, terrible included music. but yeah spotify will do in a pinch.

May be a little work but what I did is take all of the songs I wanted and used an audio editor to make one single file out of them and then put that on repeat.
