Check the wiki for instructions on opening the console and using other commands.
2- Press F8 to get a mouse
3- There's an option at the top of the dark F1 overlay that says "Disable Console". Tick then untick the circle next to it.
4- Press the button that has "~" on it (normally at the top left of your keyboard) to bring up the dev console.
Type a command in the console!
Use "freecam", or, as the guy above me said, "ghost" to fly around. Pressing numbers 1-5 change freecam speed. Hold shift to go even faster. Hope this helps. (Also if you freecam somewhere and want to explore it as a player, do the "ghost" command again. This works with both the "freecam" and "ghost" commands.)
your initial post pretty much locked up this thread and answered the question completely. I was giving an alternate option for learning to fly from 'his airness" himself :)
by the way... is your icon/avatar artwork you did or something you found? It's really neat-o.
