Any use for the laser cutter?

Has anybody found a need for the laser cutter? I found the fragments in the blood (sea monkey?) caves, built one. But I haven't seen a need for one yet.

So far, I'm pretty sure the laser cutter is pretty much useless. Early Access and all...

But I'm really curious as to what they will use it for in the future. There probably won't be any wrecks or anything... So I really don't know about the laser cutter's future in this game...

im presuming that above ground facilites will have their doors frozen shut so that you have to cut your way in?

I found several abandoned human bases in the new build, but they cannot be entered by any means (not even with a laser cutter). There is a bioreactor and a few other goodies inside. They will probably make the laser cutter capable of opening those hatches, when they are ready to fully release the other bases.

there is 2 flooded bases. one you can enter via moonpool, second one have 2 hatches open, and bioreactor too, and usb flash drive under the table, you need propulsion cannon to move the table

Maybe that big thing in the sky could be a wreck later in game .....just a thought :)

I'm just spitballing here, but considering we haven't really gone that deep in the game yet perhaps there will be an area that's covered in sheets of extraordinarily hard ice blocking entrances and exits so you'll need to cut through it. Another idea is that perhaps you'll use the laser cutter in crafting an upgrade for a to be added vehicle. Since this is taking place after the original Subnautica I could see them adding something like the "Prawn Suit Mark V" since the last one was mark III. Instead of using a drill arm it uses a laser arm that works as a giant thermoblade... Now that'd be cool!

Change list has some clues. They've added resources for a crashed ship (not placed in map yet). So I suspect we might need it to cut some doors open.

I wonder if that's the Degassi? From the first story. That'd at least fit.
