Ive been down to max 900 before, but sadly for me what you said about it not needing to go as deep makes sense.
We have been to 1700m so many times now that it feels like a trip to the grocery store.
If they want to make this game a thrill, we need something that is completely new, so we have this fear of the unknown again.
Not necessarily deeper. Not just getting an upgrade that allows you to go down to 5000m because the max depth marker says so.
Maybe we have to deal with lower (or higher) temperatures, maybe with a depth that humans can't withstand even with the Alterra's suit, so we need to do everything from within a special vehicle.
Maybe a vehicle that could swim through lava? And venture through the mantle to collect some rare minerals.
Maybe a leviathan so big we have to swim inside his body to collect samples (have I gone too far?).
I don't know, but we definitely need something NEW.
(It'd be great if they can make high temperatures meaningful outside of just "take damage" as well.)
Probabaly a tp in command prompt if you can do that.
