food quality duration
Is this super fast or something? I just got my little home dropped on me, I grabbed 3 bladderfish, swam around a bit, then cooked them, then moved my resources to the locker in the hab, and then ate my food to find that inside a a minute or two, the food had gone bad.

seriously? I heard the hurting sound effect and I was like "what?" and saw the food was "old". It was two MINUTES old!

Dont cook the fish till you plan on eating them, as far as i have seen they dont rot in your inventory if they are alive and uncooked, once you cook them they go bad in seconds it seems which is silly since a cooked fish should last several hours at the very least, and im sure a high tech society that can travel the stars has mastered basic food storage tech. Just another example of something that doesnt make much sense due to lazy writing and another missed opportunity to use/show off advanced tech, i would have added a portable food container to store food for longer to make travel easier, seems stupid to cook food for travel only to have it go bad before you have even left your base.

You have cured fish that lasts forever, just takes salt.
And there is a mod to add a refrigerator that stores cooked fish if you are into that.
Like was said. Don't cook it until you are ready to eat.

The refrigerator is now in "stable" and it works well.
But I still use salt...

The cooked fish in Subnautica did go bad pretty fast, but I don't think it was -this- fast...

It definitely did.

There are multiple stages of decay. "Old" only takes a few minutes, and it's still pretty edible at that point. I think the -1 health is just there to bring your attention to the fact that food decays.

Remember, time moves much faster in-game. A whole day passes in half an hour, and you're leaving food sitting around in a microbe-rich environment. Maybe food wouldn't become less edible in the in-game equivalent of an hour or two, but it would definitely go bad fast.
