Honestly, that's really backwards. If I were you, I'd play Subnautica first, then judge whether you want to invest in getting the early access title.
Below Zero's map is being built very differently than Subnautica's. Nearly all areas in Subnautica are accessible by the Cyclops (a 40-ft long submarine) and as such tend to be very wide open, though there is still a lot to explore. Below Zero has more of a focus on small-space exploration, and besides that, the game is decidedly not done yet. The only really "finished" biome is Twisty Bridges - other biomes are in varying stages of development ranging from looking close to done through damned near empty.
To this day I regret buying BZ in Day 1 based on nothing more than confidence in UWE and the hopes to get another Subnautica like experience.
However, it has a more complex story with voice acting and NPCs where the original does not. And performance may be better once it is optimized.
If you like to explore I urge you to get Subnautica. It is a great game and it is finished. BZ will not be out for at least 6 months, maybe a year.
