Ran out of Ion Cubes

I need an ion cube to make a tablet, but I don't have any left. Used them all to make batteries. Is there any way to get more or is the plot broken if this happens?

There are some precursor tech sites scattered around that sometimes have an ion cube lying near by so keep an eye out for those. Other than that, the largest source of ion cubes "at present", is at the alien base in the glacial basin - deep into worm territory. You'll want to bring a Prawn Suit with a Drill for that one.

Honestly, I don't think ion batteries are worth the bother. Standard batteries are cheap, and power consumption rates seem different in this game than they were in Subnautica. For now, I'd save ion cubes for tablets.

It looks like you can soft lock in the current version if you spend all your ion cubes before doing the mission objectives. At least I don't see any renewable source of cubes right now.

Well, to be fair, even in the original Subnautica you were hosed if you spent your cubes before you could make your tablets (assuming you knew ion battery tech any how). Like a mentioned before, I wouldn't worry about ion tech right now - There aren't enough long distance excursions to justify the need.

Damn guess I'll have to cheat to get one then.

6 ion cubes are in the world. A last one in the Arctic Spires Cache plus a drillable one there too.

But since you need the tablet to reach them, I don't count them.
