Is it possible to shut off sea monkeys ability to steal?
Is there a way to either turn off sea monkeys or mod them out of the game? I'm not a big fan of annoyance mechanics and would like to enjoy the game without having to replace items.

I don't know the answer to your question and I hope somebody else provides it, but in the meantime I've found it's quite effective to simply put your tools away immediately after using them when sea monkeys are in the area. If you aren't holding anything in your hands, then they have nothing to steal.

This happened in ARK and was one of the most hated features. If I recall correctly, it was some jerk-@$$ bird that swooped down, randomly stole ANYTHING from your inventory including like... 50 meat or something mad, and then naffed off. It was also incredibly hard to kill it to get the stuff back and sometimes, it didn't even have the stuff on it when it died.

I 200% that this mechanic should be killed off. It's not fun.

They only steal stuff you are holding in your hand. Holding stuff in your hand while swimming is stupid anyway, since it slows you down. Also, anything they steal you can steal back. It's not like they are super fast either.

I like them.

I like them too. They are far, far less annoying than the ARK equivalents that people often equate with them. And what little annoyance they do provide is balanced by the fact that they are ADORABLE, and the stealing behavior provides an in-game lore reason why scanning nests can give you blueprints for new tech.

That said, I have sympathy for those who hate this mechanic.

Well I'm glad you guys like them, but I still don't care for them. They wouldn't be so bad if they moved them from the start area. As it is now they stole the first 3 items I made after starting the game. I killed one to try and get my scanner back and my scanner disappeared. Not a fun start to a game.

Yes, and it's called "Not holding the item in your hand when near them"/"Stab them with a knife until they stop moving"/"Ram them with a truck".
Basically, they don't steal from you if you don't have anything in your hands.

Yeah, that's not a great introduction. Just to clarify something: you don't have to kill them to get your stuff back; if a sea monkey is swimming around with one of your tools, just swim in front of it, aim your pointer at its chest or face or hands/tool, and use your normal left-click to retrieve the item.

I know that now after looking up what the hell it was that stole my stuff. Thank you though :). The very first item that went missing I assumed it was a bug since I'm playing the experimental branch. Even a PDA warning would have been nice to let the player know that there is a critter able to steal their gear.

they dont steal stuff from your base! they stay near coral!! ALSO LEAVE THE SEA MONKEYS ALONE I THINK THEY ARE CUTE!!
txmadhatter Jul 22, 2019 @ 9:17pm
i also like the peinglings and peingwings
txmadhatter Jul 22, 2019 @ 9:18pm
also clonefarmer... what your trying to do is your trying to hack the game......
txmadhatter Jul 22, 2019 @ 9:20pm
the console commands cant remove a npc... besides they need the metal to protect there nests from carnivors... you see there young are blind and deaf so they stay near there nests that are proected by scrap metal aka metal that came off of broken and permanently damaged items that the parents hord
txmadhatter Jul 22, 2019 @ 9:20pm
without the metal all the young would be dead
txmadhatter Jul 22, 2019 @ 9:21pm
so either way your trying to put the sea monkey infants into harms way
