Stuck and bugged on quest: On a Track to Nowhere

Hello everyone, I am playing dysmantle, base game only at the moment, ive gotten quite far.
I found a train in sunburn desert that needs parts, found my way to a gas station in solaris which is the next stop

Now, according to the wiki, i'm supposed to get the parts from that place and just take them back to the train.

But that seems wrong, here's what actually happens:
I found a letter inside that gas station, telling me the train parts are on a truck which is being held somewhere. Then the mission text and sound flashed, in a way that it normally does when a quest is updated

However, nothing changed, the objective and the location of it remain the same

I read the letter again, and the same thing happens again, over and over. The quest won't update and it wont tell me where to look for that truck
I tried smashing everything, and the letter went poof so i can't read it anymore. But the dresser it was on is indestructible

So now i seem to be stuck. The quest marker is telling me to go where i am, but i cant do anything here.

I found an indestructible VAN at the military checkpoint, i'm guessing that contains the parts i need, but i can't actually inspect it yet, the quest must update first

Aand it turns out this was all pointless, because I CAME from the south. The area that this train unlocks, i had already gotten into by inching along the tracks and breaking rocks with my hammer
