I agree the pets are tricky to get all of them if you have not completed the game already. Most discussions about DLC being played alongside the main game probably stem from DLC1 and DLC2 being like that. DLC3 however is very much endgame to 100% or you can do bits and pieces as you go.
I can't go any further with Pets and I did all of the Ark (all the crops & stuff) but will have to wait for end-game to get the key to that one lower level office door.
I'm going to try to delve into first UnderWorld then DoomsDay and see how far I can go in each of those before clearing out the Central & Western part of the main story map.
Something tells me that I'll reach a certain point in both those earlier DLC's where I'll have to finish the main story questline & map before finishing those up.
I wish the devs made it more open world instead of open world-ish. Still, I'm really enjoying it with no major game-stoppers or glitches. Really excellent indie game IMHO - & look forward to their upcoming isometric RPG!
Offhand I couldnt remember what quest but you certainly dont have to do all tombs. All tombs gives you khopesh if I do remember right.
DLC 1 & 2 are completeable with the Sledgehammer alone, but DLC 2 has a 100 damage slash weapon acquirable midway through, a more than acceptable alternative to the Khopesh.
And so on. I mean, i dont really mind the need to do thing in specific order, but at least the game could inform me about many things that i need to do first. It does not. And this is a huge problem for new players.
the pets content is paced and based on maingame progress.
it has 6 areas.
early on you can only access the forest and the doomsday/underworld parts of it.
once you get the gas mask you can access 3/4 of the dlc. the very last section sadly requires again the stupdiest part of this games progression blocks : CROWN ACCESS. which hardgates anything endgame.
this is also why some pets are just redundent like the vizla. its stronger than the tiger in terms of bonus but only by 15% and its accessable at the tailend of the game. you can already get the kopesh when you can get it finally.
interrestingly the power fist can be gotten as soon as you can access crown while kopesh cannot be gotten till virtually the tailend. and if you get the surreal key and the lightsaber the kopesh is fully obsolete as this combo is flat out superior.
the good news the 2 pets which give some of the most useful bonuses overall the heeler and the phanter which also both have unique bonuses no other pet has are available at gamestart and you only need to defeat 4 bosses total to get them. well only 1 for the heeler and 3 more for the phanter.
