Does the "Home Portal" Special Item affect timed crates?

I tried opening a crate and it won't open, only showing the icon of the home portal.

Yes, using the home portal prevents the crates from opening since it would be way too easy to reach them in time. So you'll have to run to there directly from a campfire instead. (This only affects the player-placed home portal; the permanent in-world portals do not block the chests from opening.)

I see. So because I used the home portal to go home to tend to my gardens shortly before i saw the crate... it registered as closed. So in order for me to open the crates, i would have to go to a campfire, use said campfire and go back to the crate, all without using the home portal.. Thanks :D
