DLC: quick travel between campfires
THE major reason for me to buy the DLC would be that I can fast-travel between campfires in the main game. I am only at 20% of the main game and my idea is to save walking time in the main game.
therefore:
Is it worth while to do so ? I read that I need to finish the DLC before this works in the main game. Can I quickly finish the DLC for this goal ?

I think fast travel above ground wouldn't be too useful until you're either at the stage you want to start upgrading the towers to permanently kill the monsters or want to start dysmantling almost everything in sight.
The Underworld requires a lot of metal at the end to beat it. And even after you unlock fast travel above ground, it takes some resources (I forget what exactly) you probably don't have many of this early in the game. (Did you get the the above-ground broken link tower yet? Essentially the same thing has to be done underground at the end.)
The new above-ground area's building quest would probably be faster to complete if you could get the resources, and it is available in the base game. If you complete that quest, you'll see why NicShadow says campfire fast travel becomes less useful.
That being said, if you do get the DLC, you could try some of the starting areas to get some things that will help in the above world. (For example, if I played through again with a new and lowish-level character, I'd try to at least reach the farm in the upper-left area of the Underworld, since it unlocks an improved seed bag.)

Mh, well... You can finish quicly the DLC if you have finished first the main game...
I personally finished the main game @ 100% before starting the DLC.
I think not be able to fast travel between campfires is not a so big problem once you have unlocked the building mode in the main game...

I'm curious, why would Building Mode make it so you wouldn't care about campfire fast travel? I'm mot terribly far in I think, I'm supposed to be finding some Fuel Cells, but campfire travel seems like the kind of thing I should have always had.

Not building mode itself, but something you unlock after you complete the quest in the new building area. Although you need some higher-level materials to complete it, so you probably won't be able to anyway.

If you mean the teleport thingy listed as my quest reward for the current stretch, my understanding is it only takes you to Tabula Rasa and back. That doesn't help what I would want campfire fast travel for, which is to cut down on backtracking from towers.
