What to do after getting to big pit

So I'm in the really cold region, there's a big mana pit I've just got access to. I've crafted this watch that slows down time by 25%, what do I do next?

I'm not sure what the "right" answer is, but you can head West after that to the next area.

You'd have to go South first. The area directly West of the Mana Crater is on the wrong side of a drawbridge. You'd have to come back from the West to get there.

But you can go South out of Polaris, and clean up the remainder of Central across the river, then West into Westport.

thanks, the way the game presented the pit made me think I was supposed to do something with it.

You don't have to do anything with the pit with lightning, but... drop off your loot at a storage container then try to reach the bottom of the pit. Besides mana stuff happening, there is a dig spot on one level of the pit, and another dig spot after you (try to) reach the center of the pit.
