Launchpad Key [Spoilers]

I believe I've broken the last quest.

I'm in the Crown and have the quest Escape the Island on 'Warm up the engine'.
I've gone to the broken Launchpad path, gone to the Link Tower and unlocked the Fortress, but I don't have the Launchpad Key and a stone chest in the Fortress says I shouldn't break it.

I'd really rather not restart, as I've finished everything else. Any suggestions?

Go search for the locked doors to the launchpad. When you try to interact with them (try both just to be sure), you will get the quest to find the launchpad key,

I already did that. I'm past that part of the quest, without the key.
Just to be sure, I tried both doors again and had no change in my quest.

I just got the quest for the key, next to the audio log about honesty (on the desk just south of the H-pad. The room had a blue background and a lock symbol). It asked me to return to the fortress, where I got the actual key.

I'm afraid that doesn't work. That was exactly where I was before and tried both doors in the previous suggestion. I'm afraid without a developer fix, I'm stuck as the game has already progressed past the point of giving me the key.

I'm a bit sad to have wasted my time to not be able to finish, but such is a risk of Early Access games.

there is a readable note near the locked doors that specifically says 'the key is in the fortress' i think u need to read it to trigger being able to open the chest

I did not find any note, and I just cleared out all the buildings around the helipad around the locked doors. Just the audio log that mimani mentioned before.
I already got the objective to unlock the Fortress, went there, and then it just moved on to 'Warm up the engine' without allowing me to open the box with the key.
